The August Member Spotlight shines on the Nevada Bar Foundation.

Their Mission: 

The Nevada Bar Foundation’s mission is to provide legally-related services to the poor, to the victims of domestic violence, and to children protected by or in need of protection of the juvenile court and to promote or provide law-related educational programs for members of the public.

About the Organization:

The Nevada Bar Foundation was incorporated in 1997 as the 501(c)(3) charitable arm of the State Bar of Nevada. The NBF was organized to support charitable giving related to access to justice and legal education programs. Currently, they manage the Interest on Lawyer Trust Accounts (IOLTA) program, which includes the making of annual grants to organizations that promote access to justice through direct legal services to the poor, to victims of domestic violence and to children protected by or in need of protection of the juvenile court.

In addition to their the NBF’s IOLTA program, fundraising in support of access to justice through direct legal services to the poor, to victims of domestic violence and to children protected by or in need of protection of the juvenile court and Law Related Education (LRE) programs such as the Mock Trial program. Grants and Charitable Activities:

The Nevada Bar Foundation supports several annual grants that are provided to organizations that promote access to justice through direct legal services to the poor, to victims of domestic violence and to children protected by or in need of protection of the juvenile court. The funding for these grants is provided through the NBF’s IOLTA funds.

Along with the above grants that are supported by the IOLTA funds, the Nevada Bar Foundation also founded various Foundation Grants that are funded through late fees and penalties assessed through the Nevada Board of Continuing Legal Education. These annual grants fund programs that: 

  • Provide education to Nevada attorneys on topics such as civility; well-being; and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Support law related education programs that promote interest in and understanding of the law.
  • Support the activities and initiatives of affinity bar associations that serve minority lawyers.
  • Directly support delivery of legal services to under-served populations.
  • Provide for the delivery of pro bono legal services.

Staff and Leadership:

The Nevada Bar Foundation is governed by the Board of Trustees. This Board consists of 9 individuals. There are also 3 Foundation Officers. You can see the full leadership team here.
