This month, we are proud to highlight the Indianapolis Bar Foundation (IndyBar Foundation) and its impact on the legal and local community. As the philanthropic branch of the Indianapolis Bar Association (IndyBar), the IndyBar Foundation is committed to fostering justice, expanding access to legal resources, and supporting initiatives that create lasting positive change. Since its founding, the organization has distributed over $2.5 million in grants and scholarships, strengthening legal education, community service programs, and public access to justice.
Empowering the Community Through Key Initiatives
- Community Empowerment Grant
Each year, the IndyBar Foundation selects a local organization to receive its $35,000 Community Empowerment Grant. This funding is dedicated to initiatives that maximize the financial generosity of donors while also providing compelling opportunities for IndyBar members to donate their time through pro bono service. Chosen projects allow the IndyBar Foundation to fulfill its mission: to advance justice and lead positive change in Indianapolis through philanthropy, education, and service.

- Pro Bono Services & Legal Assistance
The IndyBar Foundation encourages attorney members of IndyBar to give back to the local community through free legal clinics, their Virtual Ask A Lawyer online chat-based program, participation in naturalization ceremonies, and more. These volunteer-driven efforts ensure that underserved individuals receive essential legal support, making justice more accessible for all.
Pro Bono Legal Services
- Scholarship Programs for Future and Current Lawyers
Investing in the future of the legal profession, the IndyBar Foundation offers scholarships to local law students, helping them pursue careers in law and public service. By supporting legal education, the foundation fosters a strong pipeline of future attorneys committed to justice. To continue investment in a strong legal community, the IndyBar Foundation also supports scholarships for attorneys to attend educational opportunities like the annual IndyBar Bench Bar Conference.
