The March NCBF Member Spotlight shines on the Texas Bar Foundation. The foundation was founded in 1965 by 255 attorneys that started as the Charter Members of the Texas Bar Foundation. Since inception, the trustees of the Texas Bar Foundation have awarded more than $23 million in grants to charitable organizations across Texas. The TXBF is the largest charitably funded bar foundation in the nation.
Their Mission
The Foundation’s mission is to:
• Solicit charitable contributions and provide funding to enhance the rule of law and the system of justice in Texas, especially for programs that relate to legal assistance for the underserved, the administration of justice, ethics in the legal profession, the encouragement of legal research, publications and forums, and education of the third branch of government.
Staff and Leadership
The Texas Bar Foundation Board of Trustees is comprised of attorneys, judges and public members who are appointed by the State Bar of Texas President and by the Foundation’s Board to serve a three-year term. Additional liaisons to the Board of Trustees include a member of the State Bar of Texas Board of Directors, the Texas Young Lawyers Association President, and the Chair of the State Bar of Texas Judicial Section. Fellows Officers are chosen and elected by the Texas Bar Foundation Fellows.
The Foundation has recently appointed Angela Castilleja as its Executive Director. Angela joins the foundation with more than 20 years of experience in program and organizational management with previous roles at Travis County Pretrial services and Juvenile Court, Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central & South Texas, Housing Authority of the City of Austin and Keep Texas Beautiful. Angela is stepping into the role held by Andrea Stone, who was the Executive Director for 15 years.

2022 Annual Dinner
The Foundation is looking forward to their Annual Dinner that will take place on Friday, June 10th in Houston. The Foundation will honor the recipients of their 2022 awards, some of the most prestigious legal awards in Texas.
