Hi, I’m Andrea Stone, the Executive Director of the Texas Bar Foundation. It is a real honor to recognize the value of people who have responded with warmth and generosity to the needs of others.

I am most grateful to have this opportunity to address and thank the bar associations and foundations across the country that have donated to the Texas Bar Foundation Hurricane Harvey relief fund. Below is a video message to thank those that have contributed and continue to contribute to our recovery efforts here in Texas.

I am humbled by your immediate support. And want you to know it is so appreciated. One thing about a hurricane is you never really know exactly where it’s going to hit. Historically, hurricanes hit one city or area, but this one took it to a new level and impacted over 55 counties in our state. I want you to know 100% of Harvey donation dollars are being made available for emergency grants to provide funding to organizations helping people that were affected by this relentless storm. Let me briefly share with you the largest emergency grant we’ve awarded to date: $100,000 to the Jefferson County Bar Association/Foundation. This grant helps an estimated 49 attorneys who have either lost their home, their offices, or in many instances both. All of the affected attorneys want to assist the JCBA in providing the pro bono legal assistance needed to the public as a result of this storm but simply can’t because their own lives have been turned upside down. These grant dollars will meet needs ranging from work clothes, office furniture and office equipment.

In these trying times, we are reminded that no bar is too small or too large to offer assistance, or to ask for help. I am proud to report to my board the thoughts, prayers and support we have received from our NCBF friends. And again, from all of us at the Texas Bar Foundation and the organizations we assist, THANK YOU for your generosity and support.
