The Cincinnati Bar Foundation (CBF) is a cornerstone of justice and community support in Greater Cincinnati, dedicated to promoting professional excellence and ensuring access to a fair legal process.

Established to enhance the public’s confidence in the judicial system, CBF plays a vital role in advancing legal aid, education, and community service initiatives.

Led by President Bernice L. Walker and Executive Director Lisa McPherson, the foundation actively engages with its nearly 3,500 members, including lawyers, judges, and law students, to address the region’s legal needs. CBF’s mission is deeply rooted in providing opportunities for leadership and community service while maintaining a diverse and inclusive membership. One of its standout efforts is the annual Rock the Foundation event, where attorneys transform into rock stars to raise funds for justice-related causes, showcasing a unique blend of camaraderie and philanthropy.

The foundation supports a variety of impactful programs and awards. These include grants to local non-profits focused on defending children, helping families, and educating youth. Through its restricted funds, the CBF also provides law school scholarships and supports the Greater Cincinnati High School Mock Trial program, Summer Work Experience in the Law, Hamilton County Youth Court and grants to bolster legal aid efforts, ensuring barriers to justice are reduced. 

Additionally, the foundation recognizes outstanding service to the community through its annual award, the prestigious John L. Muething Lifetime Achievement in Law Award, This award celebrates 50 years of exemplary legal service, honoring members aged 75 and older whose distinguished careers reflect the highest principles of the profession.
